You can help Marathon Scholars continue to close the achievement gap. Whether you would like to make a monthly pledge or a one-time donation, your gift will ensure our Scholars have access to opportunities that help them succeed.

Scholarship Sponsors are a critical component of our hybrid approach to ensuring student success. Scholarship Sponsors donate $12,000 to the Scholarship Fund, which supports a Scholarship for one college-bound Scholars. For more information on how to set up a Scholarship Fund pledge, contact our Executive Director, Wendy Patton, at 503-235-2500.

Marathon Mentors are amazing volunteers who commit to supporting a student for at least 4 years as they prepare for and head off to college. A Marathon Mentor can be matched with a Scholar of any age, beginning in the 4th grade.

Your commitment:

  • Take the lead in supporting a young person through an ongoing, one-on-one relationship
  • Serve as a positive role model and friend
  • Build a relationship through consistent, long-term communication
  • See their Scholar in person every month
  • Communicate with their Scholar regularly by phone, mail, e-mail

Want to learn more about becoming a Mentor? Use the contact form below to submit your questions or concerns and a staff member will follow up to help you determine if this is the right commitment for you.

Do you have a great party room or space at your office that could accommodate 20-50 people interested in investing in our community’s young people? Hosting a gathering in your home or workplace is a wonderful way to introduce Marathon Scholars to your friends and colleagues, and raise needed funds to support the work. We can help you plan your House Party with a step-by-step guide that provides everything you need to plan a great event, including a timeline, invitation suggestions, how to talk about Marathon Scholars with your guests, and making a fundraising ask. Check out our House Party Toolkit and then contact for more info.

Leaving a gift to Marathon Scholars in your will or by beneficiary designation is a wonderful and effective way to invest in the future of young people from low-income communities and help them become tomorrow’s leaders. By naming Marathon Scholars as a beneficiary for any of the following, you are investing in the future:

  • Will or living trust
  • Charitable remainder trust
  • Retirement plan – IRA, 401(k), 403(b), etc.
  • Life insurance policies
  • Bank and brokerage accounts, and other types of deposit and investment accounts
