3 Ways to March Fourth for Marathon Scholars

3 Ways to March Fourth for Marathon Scholars

Our Rising Stars Gala is scheduled for March 4th.  And there are lots of ways for you to get involved.

  1. Join us. Tickets and tables are now available for sale and we’d love to have you at the event.  Guests are treated to live music by Naomi LaViolette, a delicious dinner catered by Jake’s, a photo session with Photos by EJ Russell, and an amazing program that will feature our scholars and some amazing live auction packages (see the full list here).
  1. Send Us Your Bids Remotely. If you can’t attend the event, we are offering remote bidding services.  Check out the auction packages and identify your maximum bid.  Let us know you want to bid and we will assign a volunteer to represent you in the auction to get you into the action and keep you below our maximum bid.  If you are interested in this, contact Stephen@marathonscholars.org.   We also accept remote paddle raise donations (entirely tax deductible) for any amount, which are eligible for any gift matches we will offer the night of the event.
  1. Give Monthly. Consider a gift each month to support the scholarships and programs provided by Marathon Scholars to benefit our scholars, which range from 4th grade to seniors in college to help their dream of a college education come true.  We have monthly donors that give between $5 to several hundred dollars a month and we welcome donations and as a 501c3 non-profit organization, any donation is tax deductible.  Give your one time or recurring donation here.
Local Support for Local Kids Spotlight: GiftTree

Local Support for Local Kids Spotlight: GiftTree

Marathon Scholars has dedicated itself to helping local students – with high-potential, but few resources – achieve their dream of a college education.  We have been humbled to have many local businesses joining us in this effort.  We wanted to highlight one innovative online re-seller with local roots that has been a part of our efforts.

GiftTree is located in Vancouver, Washington and has customers around the world supplying individual and corporate gift solutions.  They sell amazing gift baskets filled to the brim with luxury chocolates, fine wine, orchard-fresh fruit, and cookies and personalized gifts not available elsewhere.  Last year, they provided special donor recognition gifts which were bottles of wine engraved with a “thank you” message.  These were well received and helped make the evening’s event special.  This year, they are providing a unique and highly personalized artisan bracelet in which you can save memories of a beach vacation which will be included in one of the auction packages.  When you consider the breadth of the offerings from GiftTree, and their attention to design, it is easy to see why customers keep coming back for every occasion.

“We strive to have long-term relationships with our customers and community, which we know is also the approach that Marathon Scholars has chosen,” said Esther Diez Istúriz, founder of GiftTree.  “This commitment requires attention to detail and personalization.  We are delighted to celebrate with the scholars, their families, and their mentors the amazing accomplishments that have been achieved.”

Local Support for Local Kids Spotlight: Watchworks

Marathon Scholars has dedicated itself to helping local students – with high-potential, but few resources – achieve their dream of a college education.  We have been humbled to have many local businesses joining us in this effort.  There are too many to list here, but we wanted to highlight a local retail establishment that illustrates this generosity.

Watchworks is a locally-owned and operated watch and jewelry store located in downtown Portland.  Alex and Maureen Hofberg opened the store in 1991 and proudly and passionately serve customers with high-quality time pieces and jewelry, and a staff which includes a certified goldsmith, gemologist, and appraiser.

“We are proud to be involved with Marathon Scholars and the local Portland community in this way,” said Alex.  “We take pride in our community and know the good that came come from hard work and dedication.  We applaud the efforts of the scholars and are pleased to be a part of their success.”

For this year’s auction, WatchWorks has graciously donated a fine women’s watch which will be the centerpiece of a “Time of your Life” auction package that is sure to delight. Visit www.MarathonScholars.org/risingstars to register for the event and ask your friends to join you.  As the event approaches we will give you a sneak peek at all the auction packages.  Join us for a great evening to celebrate and support a wonderful cause!
